Single boiler espresso machines

9 machines in the database, from $485 to $1,446 — every spec source-checked.

A single boiler machine uses one boiler for both brewing and steaming. You pull your shot first, then wait for the boiler to climb to steam temperature — so you can't brew and steam at the same time.

The upside is price and footprint: this is the classic starting point for home espresso, with proven machines like the Rancilio Silvia and Gaggia Classic. If you mostly drink straight espresso, or only steam milk occasionally, a single boiler is the most machine for your money.

Care & maintenance

Because a single boiler holds little water, scale concentrates quickly: use soft or filtered water and descale on the manufacturer's schedule. Only backflush with detergent if your machine has a three-way solenoid valve — check the manual first.
